Infiniti released the current QX80 back in 2010 and they didn’t change it much since. The car is based on the same platform as the Nissan Y62 and it features most of the technology found on that car. It now looks like Infiniti is finally ready for the 3rd generation of this car. So far they haven’t said all that much about it. However, they did, in fact, release a set of teaser shots a short while ago. These showcase the car’s front end as well as some of the new design traits. Unfortunately, Infiniti didn’t say much else about the future 2018 Infiniti QX80 so basically everything else is speculation.
Well, we know the upcoming QX80 is not going to be an all-new car, like so many of us thought. This is quite clear from the spy shots which showcase a really similar looking car to its predecessor. On top of that, it looks like the available technology might be less impressive than first thought.
This incremental update is not great for Infiniti or for their customer. Their biggest problem has to be Lincoln which just released one of the best looking full-size SUVs ever made. Unfortunately, the upcoming QX80 doesn’t look like it will cut it.
2018 Infiniti QX80 Redesign
The car didn’t change all that much since the beginning. However, it now looks like the upcoming model is going to take things a bit further. From the teaser shots, Infiniti showcased it looks like the future QX80 is going to get slimmer and quite a bit more aggressive.
It looks like in the front the car will get an entirely new grille and new headlights as well. These will be mostly the same as those found on the concept Infiniti showcased earlier this year. On top of that, the bumper looks to be slightly less imposing than that of its predecessor. However, the biggest change, by far, has to be its hood.
The new model is not going to feature the massive bulge of its predecessor which is great to see. The new car will also come with new wheels, similar to those found on their sedans, as well as a revamped rear end. Unfortunately, this has yet to be revealed but we should see them in the near future.
One of the biggest problems with the current car was its interior. Even though it features copious amounts of leather and wood, it didn’t feel all that great. The main reason for this had to be its aging design. It looks like the future 2018 Infiniti QX80 will not suffer from this.
We already saw that Infiniti will add new quilted leather as well as better-quality wood on some surfaces. The QX80 will continue to be available with 7 or 8 seats but the car will not feature a much more modern design. This alone should allow them to keep selling the SUV for at least a few more years.
Engine and Specs
Some said the upcoming 2018 Infiniti QX80 will get a new twin-turbocharged V6 engine. This would be more efficient and more powerful than the previous V8. While this would be great, we highly doubt this is the case. Considering this is not a redesign, it is safe to assume the 2018 Infiniti QX80 will get roughly the same engine as its predecessor.
This should be the older 5.6 liters naturally aspirated V8 which has been around for a while now. With around 400 horsepower and over 410 lb-ft of torque, this will easily provide the moving power needed by this massive SUV.
The biggest drawback we see with this setup has to be the old 7-speed automatic transmission. We do hope they’ll change it but considering everything else, it is highly unlikely.
2018 Infiniti QX80 Release and Price
They confirmed a while ago that Nissan will release the future 2018 Infiniti QX80 at the upcoming Dubai Auto Show. Its manufacturing date is still under wraps but it looks like they will start making them sooner than expected. The price is unknown as well.
|Land Rover Range Rover||$85,700|
|Lexus LX 570||N/A|
Some suggested the car will get cheaper but this is highly unlikely. We can easily expect the future QX80 to start at north of $65,000 which remains at the lower limit of its class.
