The Titan has been received with mixed reviews mostly because it doesn’t feel like a finished truck. There aren’t that many versions available and its engines are average at best. So far there have been plenty of rumors about the 2018 Nissan Titan and what this update might bring. We hope Nissan is going to solve some of the current issues without ruining the rest of the truck. With the 2018 model they are also going to launch a new cab style and possibly a new engine. The running gear might also be revised, especially since the current truck may feel a bit too unusual for some, especially when empty.
THIS ARTICLE IS JUST A RUMOR!!!
Review and Price
The Titan uses a very similar chassis to the larger xD so it is larger than most of its rivals. On top of that it is also considerably heavier and its borrowed suspension setup isn’t exactly great either. At over 5,700 pounds it is considerably heavier than its nearest competitor and it feels like it. The truck is slow, it rolls back and forth way too much for this class and the body roll is usually worse than in any of its rivals. The 2018 model might change some of these for the better. Rumors suggest the truck could receive a new running gear. This would include new shocks and springs as well as thicker sway bars. Even though it may not be fully corrected, we do hope for a major improvement, especially when empty. The price is expected to take a dive, especially since Nissan will likely release its crew-cab version. This might cost with up to $3,000 less than the equivalent double-cab which will finally make the Titan competitive.
2018 Nissan Titan Exterior
Not much will change on the exterior of the 2018 Nissan Titan. The truck will still look like a mix of all of its rivals which is a bit unfortunate. The front end will carry over the same massive grille and large headlights while the rear end will look nearly identical to one of its rivals. Some did suggest Nissan could add a new trim level into the mix. The Warrior concept truck might be offered as a performance-oriented model. This could include new shock with taller springs, a different set of bumpers which will give it better approach and departure angles as well as a unique color scheme. The grille might also be replaced with something a bit more understated which would definitely elevate the look of the truck. New wheels will likely be part of the mix. The only drawback at this point is that Nissan still didn’t confirm it for the market.
Inside the cabin
Most of the interior of the 2018 Nissan Titan will definitely remain the same as before. This is not really a problem mostly because it is one of the few good things about it. The current model offers plenty of space, a good layout of the buttons as well as better than average materials. Some also suggested Nissan could offer a rotary gear knob which would definitely make things easier than the console-mounted shifter. A better infotainment system is also a real possibility. The rumored Warrior trim level might receive a unique set of seats, new upholstery with contrast stitching as well as nicer padding on the dashboard.
2018 Nissan Titan Engine
The ongoing model is only available with a 5.6 liter naturally aspirated V8 good for 390 horsepower and 394 lb-ft of torque. This is mated to a 7 speed automatic and either the rear or all four wheels. Unfortunately the engine is not really the most powerful or the most efficient. It will only do 16 to 17 MPG on average which is worse than any of its rivals. The 2018 Nissan Titan is expected to receive at least one new engine.
The base version might get a revised 4.0 liter naturally aspirated V6 which could make around 280 to 300 horsepower and over 320 lb-ft of torque. A diesel has also been rumored but this would likely cannibalize the sales of the larger xD diesel, so it is highly unlikely. A twin-turbocharged 3.0 liter V6 might be added at a later date as well. This engine could offer north of 300 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque while offering better fuel efficiency than the naturally aspirated engines.
