Around since 2010, RAM’s heavy duty series of trucks didn’t change much in the meantime. However, they updated the trucks constantly in order to remain as up to date as possible. The new 2018 RAM 2500 is just that, a refresh in order to allow the truck to remain one of the most capable in its class. While most of it remained unchanged, it did receive a few upgrades that are worth mentioning. One of the biggest changes over its predecessor has to be the new towing system. The new 2500 can be had with a new goose-neck hitch that will distribute the load more evenly to its chassis.
I love V-8
Fuel consumption is not economical
A little noisy
2018 RAM 2500 Changes
Unfortunately, the rest of the truck didn’t change much over its predecessor. The new 2500 comes with the same axles, differentials and even the same wheels as before.
We hoped for it to receive better brakes but it seems RAM had other plans with 2500
Because of its brakes, 2500 remains one of the lesser trucks when it comes to the driving experience.
Even though this can easily be alleviated by not pushing the truck to its limits, this is really not ideal for a heavy-duty vehicle.
The end result is a maximum towing rating increased by around 20% which is quite impressive.
This actually allows the new RAM to be more capable than all of its rivals.
While this may not seem that great, it actually is considering that RAM didn’t do that many changes to the truck in order to make it that capable.
A new trim level
The biggest change for the new 2500 has to be the addition of a limited edition model. The all new “Tungsten” edition has to be one of the most interesting ever to be released on a truck.
Even though at a first glance it might not seem that impressive, this has to be the best part about it.

|Cab to axle||56.9 in|
This manages to make the 2500 stand out in an enthusiast’s eyes which is quite impressive.
All the exterior and interior chrome bits have been replaced with matte-tungsten inserts that really set it apart from the rest.
The truck also received new tungsten-wheels with chrome inserts that make it stand out even more
Instead of the usual RAM grille, the 2500 Tungsten comes with roughly the same look as RAM’s latest 1500 refresh.
The front bumper has also been replaced while in the rear there is a new modular tailgate with the RAM-logo in 3D.
Our only complaint with it would be the lack of additional colors but this is to be expected with a limited edition model.
Ram Power Wagon – Offroad Test
Not much changed here for the new 2018 RAM 2500. The only real upgrades happened on the limited edition model.
This not only received a new color for the upholstery but it also comes with real leather and aluminum inserts. There is less plastic than before and the overall set of features is better too.
As standard, the truck gets Dodge’s UConnect system with the 8.4-inch screen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto as well as a surround audio system.
A black leather interior is also available as an option but the lighter color really sets it off
2018 RAM 2500 Engine and Specs
Unfortunately, the new 2018 RAM 2500 didn’t receive any real upgrades here.
The base model still comes with the same 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8 as before. With 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, this is good enough for most people.

|Engine Type||Regular Unleaded V-8|
|Fuel System||Sequential MPI|
|Engine Order Code||EZC|
|Transmission||6- speed automatic|
Its only real drawback is the fuel consumption which is not great. The one most people are going to get though has to be the 6.7 liters turbocharged inline-six Cummins.
This has been around for quite some time now and it has been upgraded nearly every 2 years.
This time around it has been confirmed the engine will provide 930 lb-ft of torque which is impressive
The power output is still unknown but it looks like the new Cummins might end up offering 400 horsepower in which case it would become one of the most powerful diesel currently on sale in the US.
Release and Price
So far the price for the new 2018 RAM 2500 hasn’t been revealed. Even so, the truck shouldn’t cost much more than its predecessor.
Most rumors suggest a starting price of around $33,500 which would be in line with all of its rivals. We expect the new RAM 2500 at the Detroit Auto Show next year.
