The ongoing Sequoia has been released back in 2007 and since then it didn’t change all that much. In fact the latest update, the 2018 Toyota Sequoia, only brought a few new things to the range so the basic SUV remains the same as before. The end result is a slightly more capable car but even so, there is no question about the fact the Sequoia is an old car and it doesn’t really compete in today’s market where most of its rivals are far better in pretty much every aspect. The updated 2018 model is basically a mid-life facelift of an SUV that is nearly 10 years old at this point. This comes with some exterior updates, a slightly revised interior as well as a few new extras. However, everything else is pretty much the same as before.

Because the regular models of the new Sequoia haven’t been updated it still means it drives like a massive full-size truck.

The good part is the fact the car is far more comfortable than some of its newer rivals and its running gear is actually pretty good at ironing out the bumps on the road. On top of that Toyota also added a new set of standard active safety systems.

These include automatic high beams, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection as well as a lane-departure warning. All of these should make the 2018 Toyota Sequoia not only easier but also safer to drive.

The 2018 Sequoia received a brand new front end which is refreshing to see considering the 2017 model looked identical to the one released in 2008. Unlike their other TRD models, the Sport is aimed at on-road performance. Because of that, it features a new set of Bilstein shocks, thicker TRD anti-roll bars as well as some exterior changes.

These include a new TRD grille and a front bumper. The chrome is replaced with blacked out accents while the wheels are upgraded to 20-inch gray rims wrapped in performance all-season road tires.

This features fewer buttons than before as well as a much nicer layout. The infotainment boasts a larger screen too and with the help of the new center stack, the SUV’s dashboard looks much cleaner than before.

There are also considerably more storage spaces than before including up to 6 different cup-holders.

Engine and Specs of 2018 Toyota Sequoia

Unfortunately, the engine of the 2018 Toyota Sequoia is the same as that of the original model. While this is usually more than just powerful enough, it is an old design and it is by far one of the worst engines in its class when it comes to fuel efficiency.

This is a 5.7 liter naturally aspirated V8 which will provide up to 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque.

Rear wheel drive is still standard while the four wheel drive system is an option available across the range.

The old 6 speed automatic is still being used and it looks like not much is going to change for at least a couple of years from now

Release and Price

According to available information, the new Sequoia 2018 model will appear in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. At the beginning of 2018, it will take its place in showrooms.
