The third generation of the Silverado has been revealed in 2012 with the model being available since 2013. Even though GM gave it a large facelift not that long ago, the truck can’t really compete with its main rival. Because of that it seems a new model will be released much sooner than expected. The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado prototype has already been seen testing on the open roads. Even though the details are still scarce, there are some very interesting rumors about it. Up until not that long ago GM has been heavily criticizing Ford for using aluminum in their trucks. However, it seems that the new Silverado might get quite a few aluminum parts which is really interesting. It is a well known fact that GM has been working with aluminum for a couple of years now and we do expect big upgrades over their main rivals.
Review and Price
At this point it seems the new Silverado might just become the best truck on the US market which may finally be enough to make Chevrolet the leading truck manufacturer in the US. The new model is expected to get a new high strength steel chassis which should increase torsional rigidity and lower the center of gravity. The cab is actually expected to be made out of steel. However, the bed, doors, hood and even fenders are all likely going to be made out of aluminum. This should make the Silverado safer than the competition while having all the benefit of aluminum. Thanks to the new construction the truck could lose north of 500 pounds which would really help it. The price is still unknown but we don’t expect it to change much over the outgoing model.
2019 Chevrolet Silverado Exterior
The camouflaged prototype of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado didn’t give us all that many details about how the truck is going to look. Despite that we can clearly see the overall size as well as some interesting design quirks. The front and wheel arches are not nearly as squared off as those on the current production model. The bumpers also seem to boast curvier fender flares than its predecessor which is an interesting design note.
This might mean the new model will depart completely from the look of its predecessor in order to be closer in design to the smaller Colorado. In the rear the truck boasted dual rectangular exhausts, an interesting looking tailgate as well as a higher bed line than its predecessor. The tailgate is more than likely going to receive an integrated step which has been seen before on its rivals. In the front the concept had a massive grille as well as four individual headlights.
So far not much has been made available about the interior of the future 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. However, considering the body is likely going to take a curvier look, we wouldn’t be surprised if the same thing happens to the interior. In fact we may see here a lot of influences from GM’s latest crossovers with their curved center stack. This would easily fit the Silverado’s general design scheme and it would definitely elevate the experience inside the cabin.
Engine 2019 Chevrolet Silverado
It seems most rumors point out at an updated 4.3 liter naturally aspirated V6 as the base engine. This would give the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado right around 300 horsepower and over 330 lb-ft of torque. A turbocharged 2.0 liter inline 4 engine is also a real possibility. This would be the smallest engine in a full size truck in North America but it should give GM a good lead over its rivals thanks to the improved fuel efficiency. While some of its rivals are going to receive a diesel, the Silverado might actually skip it altogether. In its place we may see in the near future a hybrid with better fuel efficiency and increased towing power.

The top end versions are likely going to carry over the 6.2 liter naturally aspirated V8. This is known to make north of 450 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque in certain cars so it should be close to those ratings in the new truck as well. A twin-turbocharged V6 might also be offered on the higher end models. This could provide north of 500 horsepower but nothing has been confirmed so far. All trucks will likely come equipped as standard with GM’s new 10 speed automatic.
