The Charger Hellcat is one of the fastest four-door sedans in the world and on top of that, one of the cheapest too. However, the car is based on a chassis that is more than a decade old at this point. Because of that, it can’t really match the driving characteristics of the newer cars out there. Even though the FCA Group didn’t say much about the car, it seems an update is on its way with the upcoming 2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat. So far there is still little information about the car but there are quite a few rumors out there about it.
Not a bit luxurious interior
As we already know, the current version of Charger is based on Mercedes chassis, and recently we could hear rumors that the future model will be using Giorgio platform developed by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. We know that the full redesign is coming in 2021 but this vehicle will be refreshed before that in 2019, and it will jump over to Maserati Ghibli platform. This move is planned by Dodge as to reduce the weight of their sedan and to allow more upgrades that will result in improved fuel economy and performances. – according to autonews.com, update – 10.10.2017

2019 Dodge Charger Platform
The ongoing model is actually based on a platform derived from a Mercedes chassis. The upcoming model will change all of that. It seems that Dodge may use Alfa’s brand new rear-wheel-drive platform or at least a version of it. The one that will underpin the upcoming Charger is set to offer a slightly longer wheelbase and it may be both wider and longer as well.
New platform will be mostly made out of aluminum, the weight of the car is going to decrease by a huge margin
In terms of size the new Charger is expected to be lower, wider and offer a longer wheelbase than the ongoing model but it may be shorter. Also, thanks to the fact the new platform will be mostly made out of aluminum, the weight of the car is going to decrease by a huge margin.
Some expect north of 600 pounds less than before which would definitely help the 2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat become considerably better to drive than its predecessor.
Even though the car will be both lower and shorter, there may be more room inside than in the previous model. This will be possible thanks to the car’s longer wheelbase, different floor-plan layout, and slightly wider body.
The cabin is likely going to be pushed back slightly but the Charger is still going to offer more than enough room for up to 5 passengers. The design here is expected to be all new.
The dashboard will boast a more modern look, more similar to what Alfa Romeo has been doing with their cars. This would not only elevate the experience of its passengers but it would make the car considerably better to live with.
Over the base models, the 2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat will get much better seats, likely a different steering wheel and possibly a completely customizable instrument cluster.
Most rumors suggest the upcoming Charger will be just an Alfa Romeo with a different badge. However, we wouldn’t be so sure about these rumors.
In fact, we would say the car is likely going to start a new chapter for Dodge when it comes to their corporate design. Instead of being based on an old model, the new Charger may, in fact, get a completely new design with a lot of modern influences.
The new 2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat is actually expected to boast a new twin-turbocharged V8 gas engine of a lower displacement
This would finally allow Dodge to get ahead of their European rivals, a task which hasn’t been possible up to this point.
As before, the range-topping Hellcat will come with more aggressive features than its base counterparts. Things like a more aggressive front end, new headlights and tail lights, larger wheels and bigger brakes will be standard on it.
Engine and Specs 2019 Dodge Charger
So far the Hellcat has been available with an iron-block HEMI 6.2 liter supercharged V8 offering 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. This is one of the most impressive engines ever to be fitted to a car this cheap.
However, the new model is definitely not going to use the same powertrain. Why? Well, it is considerably heavier than any other engine in this class and it is one of the worst engines when it comes to fuel efficiency.
|2017 Charger Engine||3.6-liter V6||5.7-liter V8||6.4-liter V8||supercharged 6.2-liter V8 SRT Hellcat|
|Transmission||8-speed automatic||8-speed automatic||8-speed automatic||8-speed automatic|
|EPA Hwy Range - mpg||27||25||25||22|
|EPA City Range - mpg||18||16||15||13|
The new 2019 Dodge Charger Hellcat is actually expected to boast a new twin-turbocharged V8 gas engine of a lower displacement. Early reports say a 3.8 liter V8 with over 650 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque is a real possibility. Despite being less powerful, the engine should be more than capable of achieving better results than its predecessor.
How? Well, it would offer a much wider torque curve and it would drive a much lighter car. Like before, rear wheel drive will be standard. In terms of transmission, the car is expected to receive a new 8 speed automatic with a much faster response than before.
