After it has been around mostly unchanged for pretty much a decade, the all-new version of the Expedition was finally revealed a couple of months back. It looks like the new model will hit the market as a 2018 MY. Even though it may be quite early to say much about a future update, it looks like there are already plans for the 2019 Ford Expedition. So far the details are still scarce but it looks like this new model would include a few missing features. On top of that, the 2019 revision of the Expedition might also see the introduction of a few new trim levels in order to allow it to compete with its competitors from GM.
2019 Ford Expedition Review, Rumors
Just like with the new version, the 2019 model of the Expedition will still be based on the same chassis as the F-150 truck.
This means that it will use a fully boxed in frame together with a fully independent suspension setup.
On top of that, unlike its predecessor, the car is going to use an all aluminum body which will assure the car will remain as lightweight as possible.
The regular models of the 2019 Ford Expedition are going to look roughly the same as the 2018 car. Expect them to possibly receive new LED headlights and tail lights but that should be it. The new trim levels, on the other hand, might change a bit more than that.
For starters, it looks like there is a chance for Ford to release a new luxury edition of the Expedition called the Vignale. So far this has yet to be confirmed and it looks it may not even be available on the US market.
This model would include a new grille design, more chrome inserts as well as bigger wheels. It is also expected to come with unique paint schemes and possibly an air-ride system which would allow the SUV to get lower at highway speeds in order to save fuel.
Most rumors are saying this model might become available only in select markets such as China or the Middle East. However, Ford may also surprise us and release it on the US market as well.
Unsurprisingly enough, the 2019 Ford Expedition is not going to be all that different from the current model which is also basically identical to the F-150 truck.
The SUV will continue to use the same vertical-looking dashboard as before and it should make use of roughly the same features. However, some also suggested a few upgrades might be in store for it. For starters, the Expedition might receive a new infotainment system with better connectivity and a larger screen.
On top of that, there is a small chance for the car to receive a four-seats version which would make use of its massive wheelbase in order to provide a highly impressive experience on the rear seats.
Engine and Specs
There is currently a 3.5 liter V6 under the hood of the car. The 2019 Ford Expedition will feature the same 3.5-liter twin-turbo engine as before. With up to 400 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque, this has to be one of the most impressive V6 engines ever to be fitted to an SUV. The base model will get the same engine but this will only offer 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.
Both of them are going to be mated to the same 10 speed automatic and both of them will be available with either rear or four-wheel drive. Even though unofficial, it seems the new Expedition may receive a 3rd engine option in the form of Ford’s all-new 3.0-liter diesel.
This is a new V6 turbocharged mill which is expected to provide over 250 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. This should be enough to give it a really high tow-rating while also boasting considerably better fuel efficiency than the gas-powered V6.
2019 Ford Expedition Plug-in Hybrid
It is clear that many automakers, including Ford, are turning to some type of electrification for their vehicles. We could hear that F-150 Hybrid is on the way for 2020, but it seems that 2019 Ford Expedition Hybrid will be the one that will come even before it.
For some people, this might be a far fetch info, but we think that it is quite possible as F-150 and Expedition share many parts and Expedition is based on F-150 model. This move is needed as we are seeing more and more buyers that are looking for improvements in fuel economy and emissions segment and we know how popular SUVs are.
At this moment we still do not have any concrete details about powertrain that will be utilized for 2019 Ford Expedition Hybrid, but we could hear previous reports that it will not offer plug-in setup. This is not the first time we are talking about hybrid SUVs, earlier we could see Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon with similar fuel-efficient powertrains.
Release date and Price
The release date for the new vehicle is still unknown but from the early rumors, it looks like it may hit the market closer to the end of 2019. Its price is more than likely not going to change all that much.

Some did say the higher end versions will get cheaper, especially since the new Expedition is nearly as expensive as the Navigator which is a far more impressive vehicle.
