Released in 2013, the current Jazz is not really up to date anymore. In order to keep it as fresh as possible Honda did release a small update a short while ago. However, it now looks like they may release another version with the future 2019 Honda Jazz. While the details about this upcoming model are still scarce, it looks like it will be a mid-life facelift and not an entirely new car. We can expect it to feature the same platform as before as well as a really similar architecture. Unfortunately, this also means the car is not going to get much better to drive than the current model and most of the limitations will remain. Even so, the new Jazz should be a far more comfortable vehicle than before and it should be able to provide a slightly more thrilling experience.
The car first appeared in a Japanese publication and while there isn’t that much information available about it, it looks quite impressive. For starters, we can clearly see this will not be an all-new model as the car features roughly the same wheelbase and roughly the same layout as before.
However, we can see some major design changes as well as it looks like things will change under the skin.
Honda will more than likely alter the running gear in order to make the new 2019 Honda Jazz as fun to drive as possible. Not that long ago the car became a favorite for younger buyers in need of a roomy and cheap vehicle, so this would be the perfect chance for them.
2019 Honda Jazz Redesign
It looks like one of the biggest changes to happen with the 2019 Honda Jazz will be the way it looks. Even though it will retain the boxy shape, which so many people tend to love, it will come with all new design cues which will get it closer to the Civic when it comes to the way it looks.
|Let's compare||2017 Honda Jazz||2017 Chevrolet Sonic
|Engine||Regular Unleaded I-4||Gas I4|
|Gas Mileage||29/40 mpg City/Hwy||24/38 mpg City/Hwy|
|Style Name||LX Manual||4-Door Sedan Manual LS|
For starters, in the front it will receive new swept-back headlights with wraparound DRLs, the grille will be slightly more aggressive than before while honeycomb mesh will be in use in all grilles. The profile of the car will boast new design lines meant to make it a bit more aggressive.
The rear on the other hand is likely going to feature a roof-spoiler and possibly a slightly more over-the-top bumper in order to complete the design.
There is no denial about the fact the current Jazz is a great car. However, its interior could be better. Most of the problems should be addressed with the future 2019 Honda Jazz. The car is likely going to feature a new infotainment system with a far less cluttered interface.
Also, the steering wheel and the rather unusual-looking plastic behind the steering wheel should be gone for something a bit more upmarket-looking. The car will continue to offer a back-to-basics approach though, so the amount of buttons will still be kept to a bare minimum.
Engine and Specs
There are a bunch of engines available with the current Jazz ranging from a tiny 1.2 liter inline-four to a more powerful 1.5 liter engine. However, none of them is all that impressive when it comes to the technology Honda used. The upcoming Jazz might change that.
It looks like the base engine might be a new 1.5 liter inline-four offering anything between 90 and 110 horsepower. The higher end versions of the Jazz should make use of a 1.0 liter unit good for up to 120 horsepower and over 130 lb-ft of torque.
This should give the tiny hatchback plenty of grunt to handle pretty much any situation without having to use much more fuel than the base engine.
2019 Honda Jazz Release and Price
The Japanese magazine showcased a car which looked pretty much ready to go. Even if this was a render, it looked pretty convincing. Because of that, we can safely assume the upcoming Jazz is not that far away. Honda will likely release the car closer to the end of 2018 but they should offer it on sale by the start of 2019.
Its price is still well under wraps but a base model should still not cost over the equivalent of $16,000, especially since there are quite a few capable models at roughly the same price-point.
