The previous models of the Cherokee have mostly been aimed at those who wanted to combine the off-road use with some on-road driving. However, this is not really the case with the latest model. This features a car-like platform and it is better suited for on-road use. While the car is still fine in off-road, it can’t really match the abilities of its predecessor. There have been rumors about a new model that would solve that. However, it looks like the future 2019 Jeep Cherokee is not all that different than its predecessor. The car is set to be the facelift for the ongoing model, so we can expect a few design changes as well as small updates under the skin. The end result should be better value for money and possibly better performance, but more on that a bit later.
2019 Jeep Cherokee Review
Just like with its predecessor, the new Cherokee is still going to rock the same FCA Compact Wide front wheel drive platform. New RAV4 2019… This is actually a hatchback architecture, so it’s not really a surprise the car is not as impressive in off-road. Even so, with this model, it looks like Jeep is going to try to offer the best possible experience on the road.
In order to do this, the manufacturer is more than likely going to tweak the suspension system. We expect a slightly more compliant ride than before while not ruining the way it drives.
Some also suggested the car may receive a different steering column. While this would definitely make it better to drive, we wouldn’t be so sure Jeep will make the move.
Engine and Specs
The base version of the 2019 Jeep Cherokee should boast a 2.4 liter naturally aspirated inline-four engine. This is more than likely not going to change much over what its predecessor had to offer.
The car should be able to deliver right around 184 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. While this is not all that impressive, it will definitely be enough for most buyers.
|2018 Jeep Cherokee||Short Specs|
|Engine||Regular Unleaded I-4|
|Transmission||9-Speed 948TE Automatic|
|Gas Mileage||21/30 mpg City/Hwy|
The higher end versions on the other hand will finally get rid of the 3.2 liter V6. In its place it looks like Jeep is going to install a new 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine boasting a mild-hybrid system. The end result should be right around 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque which is considerably better than the engine it would be replacing.
A 6 speed manual is still not going to be an option which is a shame. Even so, the car should make use of Jeep’s great 9 speed automatic. It looks like this will drive the front wheels on both versions while an all wheel drive system will remain an option.
For those looking to go far in off-road, Jeep is likely going to offer the Trailhawk. This should boast electronic differentials as well as beefier tires. While it won’t be a Wrangler, it should still be better than most of its rivals.
One of the biggest changes to happen with the 2019 Jeep Cherokee is going to be the way it looks on the outside. The current model has a rather unusual split-headlight design which not that many people liked.
Well, the upcoming model will change that. It looks like the car will receive a front end much more similar to that of the Grand Cherokee. Things like the grille, headlights and even the bumper are going to be very similar to those found on its larger sibling. The interior of the car is also going to receive a bit of attention.
It looks like Jeep will offer slightly nicer materials and possibly a new set of safety features. Some also suggested the car will receive Jeep’s latest infotainment system and we wouldn’t really be surprised if this will actually happen.
Release and Price
Even though the manufacturer didn’t say much about it, we managed to check out a few camouflaged versions of the upcoming 2019 Jeep Cherokee. This likely means the car is not far from release, so it is safe to assume they’ll reveal it in the upcoming months.
The price is more than likely not going to change much, if at all. The base model should still cost around $25,000 which remains one of the better deals in its class.
