At this point, the FCA Group doesn’t really have a suitable mid-size pickup offering. Instead of releasing another Dakota, they instead gave Jeep the task to release a new vehicle. This will be the 2019 Jeep Scrambler which was previously known as the Wrangler pickup. Even though the car is still months away from release, there is plenty of available information about it. For starters, it will be based on a ladder frame chassis and it will use technology from the Wrangler. However, it will not be identical to the crossover which is reassuring. So far photographers managed to catch on tape only the four-door version of the truck. Even so, it looks like Jeep may release a two-door version in the future.
2019 Jeep Scrambler Review
Just like the rumors suggested, the future Scrambler will be Jeep’s first truck in a while. This will feature all the off-road capabilities of the Wrangler with the added benefit of having a bed. It looks like over the crossover the car will also feature a different frame.
A while ago the guys from the Jeep forums leaked a CAD drawing of the truck’s chassis. From this, it is quite clear that the rear is quite different.
The Scrambler will feature heavier duty suspension with different springs. On top of that, it looks like a modular length is available which would allow Jeep to offer all those different versions of the truck. Just like the crossover, the truck will also feature live front and rear axles.
These will allow it to go pretty far in off-road while also keeping the upgrade path open. Unlike the current Wrangler, the Scrambler seems to use 12-bolt axles which are a step above the Dana 44.
Even though the price may seem high, the Scrambler will come with quite a few interesting quirks. Some spy shots confirmed that the truck will come with fabric soft-top, a black hard-top or a body-colored hard-top.
On top of that it looks like a folding windshield and removable doors might be in store for the higher end models. These alone should be well worth the money over its rivals. On top of that, the 2019 Jeep Scrambler is also going to feature a relatively large bed for its size.
This is mostly possible thanks its really wide cabin which it inherits from the Wrangler. In terms of looks, the front will be mostly identical to the SUV. The rear will feature the Jeep badge on the tailgate and vertical tail lights which will definitely give it a unique look.
So far Jeep released very little information about the cabin of the future Scrambler. Even so, it looks like it won’t be that different from the Wrangler. The two cars will share the same dashboard and roughly the same interior layout.
The only real difference will be in the rear where the truck is likely going to feature less space. On top of that, it looks like some versions will come with more rugged materials in order to make it more suitable for actual work.
Engine and Specs
It is safe to assume the 2019 Jeep Scrambler will hit the market with three different engines. The base model is likely going to feature Jeep’s new Hurricane 2.0 liter turbo-four. With around 300 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque this should easily please most of its buyers.
Higher up the range they will also offer a 3.6 liter V6 with around 330 horsepower and over 270 lb-ft of torque. A smaller 3.0 liter turbocharged V6 diesel with around 240 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque will be available as well.
All three should come with either a 6 speed manual or with an 8 speed automatic. As with the Wrangler, the Scrambler will come with four wheel drive even on the base model.
2019 Jeep Scrambler Release and Price
Considering the test mule of the 2019 Jeep Scrambler looked pretty much ready, it is safe to assume the production vehicle is not that far. In fact, it looks like a release in the upcoming months is a real possibility.
This would allow Jeep to focus on actually getting the truck ready for production in the first months of 2018.
Its price will definitely be quite high. At first we can expect only the four-door versions of the truck. These are likely going to start from over $30,000 which is quite a bit more than the competition.
