Nissan released the current Qashqai back in 2013 in Europe and only last year in the United States. Since its launch, the car didn’t change all that much. It still offers roughly the same design, engines and even a really dated interior. Looks like an update might be on its way but so far there isn’t all that much official information about this. The future 2019 Nissan Qashqai is going to be the car that will come with the improvements most rumors are saying. For starters, there is a chance that this will not be a new car like some suggested. Instead, it is more than likely going to be the car’s mid-life facelift. Because of that, we can expect some exterior upgrades, likely some changes under the skin but that should be it.
Review and Rumors
The new Qashqai should continue to use the same CMF platform as before. This modular design is actually one of the more refined in its class. Even though it is in use on cheaper cars, the incredible modular design of the CMF allowed Nissan to offer a really impressive crossover.
The Qashqai is better to drive than some of its rivals and it also offers a really impressive level of comfort. The only real drawback is the car’s NVH level. Even though it is comfortable, it isn’t nearly as quiet as some of its rivals which is a real shame.
We do hope the 2019 update will change some of that. We also hope for Nissan to finally ditch the rear drum brakes which plagued the Qashqai since its inception.
2019 Nissan Qashqai Redesign
One of the strong points of the current car is the way it looks. Even though it isn’t all that impressive to look at, it definitely has a unique design which so many people love. Chances are the future 2019 Nissan Qashqai is not going to change much. If the rumors are anything to go by then we can expect more influences from the Maxima.
This should allow the car to become slightly more outstanding than before and it should give younger buyers a reason to get it. We also hope for a sportier package which would definitely elevate the way the car looks.
As we said, one of the drawbacks of the current model is the rather dull cabin. We hope the upcoming 2019 Nissan Qashqai will change all of that by offering a far more refined interior. Even though it won’t be fully rebuilt, there is a chance for it to share some design cues with the new Micra.
If this is the case then the Qashqai will definitely become one of the better models in its class. Expect a driver-focused dashboard, a much cleaner-looking cab than before as well as far less physical buttons.
The materials will also improve and thanks to that, the car will become a far better place to be in. the most obvious change will likely be the steering wheel which should change to the one that debuted on the Micra.
Engine and Specs
The 2.0 liter naturally aspirated inline-four engine and the 1.5 liter diesel might be gone this time around. Instead, the new Qashqai should boast all turbocharged new generation engines. The base model should come equipped with a 1.2 liter turbo-four good for up to 130 horsepower.
The higher end versions should come equipped with a 1.6 liter turbo-four which will deliver anything between 160 and 200 horsepower and as much as 180 lb-ft of torque. As before, an all wheel drive system might become available with the higher power engines.
The 1.6 liter diesel will likely offer between 110 and 130 horsepower, so it should be the perfect compromise between fuel efficiency and power. The only drawback will be the CVT gearbox which is expected to remain available on some models.
2019 Nissan Qashqai Release and Price
The ongoing Qashqai starts at under $20,000 on the North American market with a really similar price in Europe. It looks like the 2019 Nissan Qashqai is not going to be all that different.
The change might come for the higher end models which could now cost more due to new features and better materials. The car will more than likely hit the market close to the end of 2019 but Nissan should still reveal it much sooner than that.
