Revealed in 2008, the ongoing RAM 1500 is one of the oldest trucks currently on sale in the US. Even though it remains one of the more capable models on the market, it doesn’t really match its rivals when it comes to features or even efficiency. In order to change that it looks like a brand new model is set to be released with the upcoming 2019 RAM 1500. So far the company decided not to release much information about this future vehicle. Even so, the new 1500 has been spied numerous times and there are quite a few available details about it.
2019 RAM 1500 Redesign
For starters, the new truck is going to be based on an entirely new platform. The specifics are still unknown but it looks like the truck will retain a similar ladder frame to its predecessor.
This time around this will be a fully boxed-in chassis which should be considerably stiffer than before.
With the help of a much beefier axle and running gear components, the total payload for the new 1500 should increase by a good margin.
Likely the biggest change for the truck is going to be its sheet-metal
Even though at this point things are unclear, it seems the RAM 1500 will receive aluminum body panels alongside a high-strength steel cabin.
The end result should combine the advantages of steel with those of aluminum.
The truck will be both lighter and better in terms of NVH levels so the driver won’t have to compromise on anything.
So far we were only able to see some of the leaked official renders of the 2019 RAM 1500.
If we take a close look at these and then at the camouflaged mule, it becomes clear the truck’s design is going to be an evolutionary one.
In the front, the usual cross-hair grille will stay
However, the headlights definitely seem slimmer and more aggressive than before. On top of that, the truck seems to boast a raked hood and a slightly different cabin than before.
Things like a split-tailgate or even squared-off wheel arches are also expected even though none has been confirmed so far.
Over its predecessor, the new model will also impress with the selection of available cabs.
It seems that with this model the FCA Group will offer an elongated cab
This is not only going to provide more luggage space but also considerably more room for the rear passengers which are expected to benefit from adjustable rear seats.
Inside the cabin.
On top of the better seats, the 2019 RAM 1500 will also benefit from far more features than before.
It will come with more safety systems as standard and it should be much easier to drive than before.
The truck has been confirmed to receive a touch-screen based infotainment system with a screen that seems 10 to 12 inches in size.
This will eventually find its way into Chrysler’s other vehicles.
The steering wheel also seems brand new and on top of that, most of the buttons seem to be made from aluminum or at least feature aluminum inserts.
Engine and Specs of 2019 RAM 1500
The old 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 is expected to remain the base engine of the 2019 RAM 1500.
This should receive a small bump to around 320 horsepower and over 270 lb-ft of torque which would actually be more than its main rival.
The old 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8, on the other hand, might be discontinued
In its place, RAM could install a twin-turbocharged V6. This would be able to not only provide more power and torque than its predecessor but it would also be more efficient.
The older 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 diesel is likely not going to change much.
This is expected to be upgraded to around 250 horsepower and over 420 lb-ft of torque in order to be able to match its main rivals.
All three engines will be mated to an 8 speed automatic, the same that can be currently had with the EcoDiesel.
On top of the regular rear or all wheel drive system, we also hope for lockable differentials, especially now when the truck will feature 6-lug wheels and beefier differentials.
Release and Price
Another interesting part about 1500 is the price. It looks like the new truck will be just as expensive as its predecessor which is an impressive feat for FCA.
RAM 1500 will likely appear next year at the Detroit Auto Show.
These are unofficial information, but it is very likely.
Many critics favor F-150 or Silverado. We think that the new RAM 1500 has excellent chances, just as before. Below we will list some rivals.
