Around for the past decade, the current Ram HD2500 is not exactly the most up to date truck on the market. Even so, it still manages to offer great performance thanks to its diesel engine while also being quite cheap to run. However, the truck is missing many features its rivals do have which is starting to become a problem for the FCA Group. In order to change that, it looks like a new model is on its way to the future 2019 RAM 2500. While the manufacturer didn’t say a word about it, we managed to see a camouflaged test mule not that long ago. The things we have seen are quite impressive as the truck is completely different from what the first rumors said it will be.
2019 RAM 2500 Review and Rumors
For starters, its design is not going to change all that much, but more on that a bit later. On top of that, it looks like this is not going to be an all aluminum bodied truck like some suggested it will be. Instead, the future 2500 is going to boast a steel body with some aluminum panels. The end result should still be a noticeable decrease in weight. While this won’t be clearly visible in its total weight, thanks to the lighter body, the truck will be able to have a more durable chassis.
If the rumors are anything to go by then the new model will feature an all high strength steel chassis with carbon fiber inserts. This will increase the structural rigidity so the truck should also be able to tow considerably more than before. With the new chassis, the 2019 Ram 2500 is going to feature a new running gear.
From the looks of things, this will benefit from a live rear axle and an independent front suspension system. The latter may change but for now, it seems like this may be the setup the FCA Group is looking at. Bigger brakes are already a given at this point but we do hope for some active safety technologies as well.
As previously stated, the 2019 Ram 2500 is going to feature a far more conservative design than that of 1500. For starters, in the front, the truck is still going to get the same crosshair grille as ever.
However, it will come with slimmer and more aggressive set of headlamps as well as a new bumper with a slightly more off-road oriented look. The cabin will be very similar to its predecessor but it does look the bed may offer a new design in order to better fit the cabin’s overall design scheme.
On the interior, the Ram 2500 is expected to share quite a few parts with 1500. Things like the steering wheel, instrument cluster, and even the infotainment system should be the same. However, the truck’s dashboard will offer a more utilitarian design in order to better fit its intended purpose.
Engine and Specs
The current model boasts two different engines. There is a large gasoline-powered 6.4-liter HEMI which is good for 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. This is likely going to get carried over to the new model where it should provide right around the same amount of power.

The option will come in the form of a 6.67 liter turbocharged inline-six Cummins. Even though this engine has been around for ages, it looks like there is still plenty to upgrade on it. While the release specs are unknown, the engine is likely going to offer around 400 horsepower and over 950 lb-ft of torque.
Some even suggested this will become the first truck engine to breach 1,000 lb-ft of torque which would make it quite impressive. As before, a 6-speed automatic is likely going to be the only option but Ram may surprise us with a new 8 speed automatic.
Release and Price
The camouflaged test mule we have seen a while ago looked pretty much ready for completion. Because of that, we can easily assume the new version of the Ram 2500 will hit the market in the upcoming months.
However, Ram is likely going to reveal it sooner, especially since there are two new rivals which will directly compete with 2500. Its price is likely not going to change much, so the base version will cost right around $35,000.
