Subaru released the all-new Impreza back in March 2016. The car came based on a new platform with quite a few new available features. Well, nearly a year later they also released the new Crosstrek. As expected, the car is almost identical to the hatch version of the Impreza. The only real difference is the car’s higher ground clearance and beefier appearance. Even though the model is quite new, it looks like the future 2019 Subaru Crosstrek might be more different than we first thought. For starters, this version of the car could solve some of its current issues. On top of that, it looks like Subaru is readying at least a new engine choice. This would allow the car to compete with its more expensive rivals which are not really possible right now.
Sports features combined with crossover style
Subaru is preparing another surprise. It’s about the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek XTI. This is a technology from WRX STI packaged in a crossover chassis. This sporty Crosstrek gets a 2.5L engine, six-speed manual transmission as standard and a Driver Controlled Center Differential. In fact, this will be a very interesting vehicle. 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Rumors and Review
Considering how new the car is, it is safe to assume the 2019 model will not bring any major changes. The car will use the same modular platform as the current version.
On top of that, it seems it will also use roughly the same running gear as well. This means it will continue to drive better than most of its rivals. This is possible thanks to a really low center of gravity and a surprisingly compliant suspension setup.
Some also suggested the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek will come with better brakes. This is actually quite possible, especially for the higher end models.
2019 Subaru Crosstrek Release and Price
So far Subaru didn’t say a word about the price of the future Crosstrek. The current model starts at $22,700 and it goes up to $27,200 without options.
|Let's compare |
If the rumors end up to be true then the future model could go up to the north of $30,000. This would make it face much tougher competition but it shouldn’t really be a problem considering it is a unique product.
It looks like Subaru will most likely reveal the car in early 2018, likely in March. Its actual release date should be set closer to the mid of 2018.
Engine and Specs
The current model features a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter flat-four which is not really all that impressive. It is safe to assume the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek will not be all that different. The base model of the car will likely continue to use the same engine as the current generation.
It should still provide around 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque which is barely enough for its class. However, it looks like things may change with the higher end models. A 2nd engine choice is a real possibility now.

|Gas Mileage||23/29 mpg city/hwy|
|Fuel System||Gasoline Direct Injection|
The future Crosstrek could end up using Subaru’s new 1.6-liter turbo flat-four engine or even one of their 2.0-liter mills. Either of these is capable of over 200 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. With this amount of power, the Crosstrek should finally feel like a complete vehicle.
Like with all of their other cars, an all-wheel-drive system will be standard across the range. It looks like Subaru will continue to use the 6 speed manual on the base versions. All the others will likely stick with the CVT which is surprisingly good for what it is.
Considering how new it is, the car’s looks will not change all that much. In fact, it is safe to assume that the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek will be mostly identical to the current generation. Even so, Subaru might actually add a few new features. For starters, the car could get new LED headlights as well as a slightly different grille.
These would allow Subaru to offer better night-time visibility while also better hiding the car’s radar system which is currently quite visible. On top of that, it new colors and new rims might also be in store for the higher end versions of the car.
Here the new Crosstrek will not change nearly at all. The current model features the same dashboard design as the Impreza with the only real difference being the electric hand-brake. The 2019 car may get a slightly better infotainment system though.
This could be improved with the help of a better hardware and software which would allow it to be considerably more responsive than the one currently in use.
