A while ago rumors about the upcoming 2019 Subaru Forester started to surface. These were saying the car was going to be an all-new model. Well, not that long ago these rumors were basically confirmed when a camouflaged prototype of the car has been spied testing on the open road. So far the details are still scarce but it looks like the upcoming Forester will be a far better car than its predecessor.
According to the latest information, Subaru will soon showcase its first EV on the Forester platform. Will this really happen, it remains to wait and see …

The new car, on the other hand, is expected to solve all of these issues. For starters, the new platform is Subaru’s new ultra-high and high strength steel modular architecture.
This should allow the new Forester to be with up to 200 pounds lighter than before.
On top of being lighter, the car will also be more structurally rigid which should improve NVH and make it safer in the case of a crash.
These alone should be well worth the upgrade over its predecessor.
For starters, the new model will be based on Subaru’s new modular platform
On top of that, the car is expected to receive more engine choices and a far better running gear. Its predecessor lacked most of these things.
While it was great at carrying 5 adults and their luggage, the Forester failed to impress in its later generations.
It was simply too soft to be fun to drive and it really didn’t stun anyone with its design.
From the latest spy shots, it looks like the 2019 Subaru Forester will grow quite a bit.
The car definitely seems to offer a much longer wheelbase than its predecessor. On top of that, it also looks longer and wider which is surprising considering Subaru is readying the 2nd crossover.
While the glasshouse is still similar to that of its predecessor, the car definitely has a more angular look to it which will give the Forester a far more aggressive look than before. In the front, it seems the “boat-like” bumper won’t go away.
The new model will retain the unusual-looking bumper mostly because it will give it a far better approach angle than otherwise.
The headlights and grille seems quite similar to those found on the new Ascent which is interesting
The rear of the car, on the other hand, seems to take a lot of design cues from its predecessor which is unusual considering the rest of the car looks brand new.
Most rumors suggest the 2019 Subaru Forester will get most of its interior from the Impreza.
Even though this hasn’t been confirmed just yet, it seems that the dashboard, seats and most of the features will be very similar between the two cars.
However, the crossover will offer more space for the front and rear passengers as well as a slightly raised driving position.
The latter will become its main selling point without a doubt.
2019 Subaru Forester Engine and Specs
The current US version is being powered by either a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated flat-four or by a turbocharged FA.
The new 2019 Subaru Forester should change most of that. The car’s base engine is expected to be one of Subaru’s new low-displacement 1.5 or 1.6-liter turbocharged flat-four. This engine is expected to provide around 150 to 160 horsepower and over 180 lb-ft of torque.

|Engine||Regular Unleaded H-4|
|Body Style||Sport Utility|
|Gas Mileage||22/28 mpg City/Hwy|
A 6 speed manual is likely on the base model with a CVT being expected as an option
This engine will provide better fuel efficiency than the 2.5-liter mill while feeling more powerful thanks to having more torque available at lower RPM.
The range-topping version of the car, on the other hand, is expected to make use of Subaru’s new 2.0-liter turbocharged flat-four FA engine.
At this point, it looks like the car will receive the current Japanese version of the engine which is currently capable of 276 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.
Some also suggested a 296 horsepower version is a real possibility but considering the price of the car, this is highly unlikely.
Release date and Price
The car’s release date has yet to be revealed but it seems the car might be unveiled by the end of 2018. Its price is likely not going to change much.
Expect the base model to hover around $24,000 with the range-topping version staying under $40,000.
