2019 Subaru Legacy GT Review

2019 Subaru Legacy

Sedans are struggling on the market nowadays and they are not as popular as they used to be. One of the vehicles that is not so often on the shopper’s list is the 2019 Subaru Legacy. To make matters worse, almost everything about this vehicle is right, but somehow, it cannot make a difference on the market. However, Subaru will not give up that easily. There is a new model on sale and it is better than before. Let’s check it out.

2019 Subaru Legacy Redesign

One of the weakest points of the Subaru Legacy is its design. Subaru played it safe and they opted for the clean look, but that is pretty much it. There is nothing special about it, unlike the Outback model for instance. Perhaps that is the reason why Subaru struggles with the sales of Legacy. The new model sits on the 17-inch steel wheels, that are featured on the base model and they look cheap.

The interior is not much better. You will find an ugly dashboard and a contrived look which is easily beaten by any rival. High on the dashboard is a 6.5 or an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, whereas the controls are located left of the steering wheel. Contrasting stitching across the dash can be found in all models with the exception of the entry-level car, which gives some life to the Legacy.

Engine and Specs

Although it doesn’t look as attractive as some of the rivals, it is a true joy to sit behind the wheel of the new model. However, underneath the hood, there isn’t a powerful machine, as you might hope for. Most of the Legacy sedans are powered by a 2.5-liter I4 engine that delivers 175 hp and 174 lb-ft of torque, which is a modest output. Luckily, you can always opt for the Limited model and the option of the 3.6-liter I6 good for 256 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque.

The transmission combined with the base engine is the CVT which advances the things a bit. While the engine’s forte isn’t passing on the highway, it has a decent acceleration and this car can prove adequate for the city driving. On the other hand, the I6 is what you need in terms of power. No matter which engine you select, the Legacy will provide you a comfortable cruise and if you are considering this car, this is what you need.

Safety could be the 2019 Subaru Legacy’s strongest selling point. This car is definitely at the top when it comes to keeping its passengers safe and this years, Subaru added active-safety features to the standard equipment. The only thing lacking here is the advanced self-driving safety gear, but we will not criticize the carmaker for it.

Some of the safety tech you can find here includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and active lane control. Moreover, eight airbags are included as well as the blind-spot monitors, that are standard only on the Limited, but they can be added to any model but the base one.

The starting price of the Legacy is $22,545, which is quite a decent cost for this vehicle. However, we suggest you avoid the base trim and go with any other model if you can because you will get so much more.

The Legacy is comfortable and the price/quality ratio is just perfect. Even though design may be its downside and the fact that it is hard to find on dealer lots, the Legacy is worth looking for.
