Toyota released the ongoing version of the Corolla back in 2012 while the International version came a year later. Since then the car didn’t really change all that much. However, it looks like the manufacturer is finally going to come up with a revision. This will most likely hit the market as the future 2019 Toyota Corolla. Even though there are not that many official details, photographers already managed to shoot the upcoming model. Thanks to that, we have a pretty good idea about what to expect from it.
2019 Toyota Corolla Review
For starters, the new car is likely going to feature a new platform, better engines as well as a brand new design. With this model, Toyota may try to compete with more expensive cars but so far not much has been revealed about this. Even so, the new car will definitely be a huge step-up over its predecessor which is an average car at best.
Unlike before, the new Corolla is going to use Toyota’s new modular architecture. The TNGA platform also underpins the Prius as well as a few other cars. While it may not sound that impressive at first, this is considerably more structurally sound than before while also being lighter.
This will translate into better NVH levels, better safety ratings in the case of a crash as well as better driving characteristics. With the new platform, the upcoming 2019 Toyota Corolla will also benefit from new proportions.
From the spy shots, it looks like the car will feature a longer wheelbase and it will be wider as well. However, the car doesn’t look any taller or longer. This would mean the Corolla will become quite a bit more aggressive than its predecessor.
With the current model, Toyota went on a slightly different route than what some expected. It looks like with the future Corolla, Toyota will bring things to a whole new level.
The car is not going to share all that much with its predecessor. In the front, it will boast a design more similar to Toyota’s higher-end vehicles. The headlights will be quite slim and swept-back while the grille will be considerably slimmer than before.
The bumper, on the other hand, will feature larger intakes while the body will have a curvier look to it which is what we expect from a European model. The new proportions also make the car seem larger than it really is which will definitely aid Toyota in most markets.
Unfortunately, we do not have all that much information about what the car is going to feature inside the cabin. Even so, we can expect some sort of evolution of their current design scheme.
The dashboard is likely going to boast a more minimalist look than before but the infotainment system, as well as the instrument cluster, should boast far better screens, and hardware, than before.
The driving position is also likely going to be lower which will aid with both headroom and passenger space.
Engine and Specs
Instead of the usual 1.8 or 2.0-liter engine, the 2019 Toyota Corolla is likely going to feature BMW-power. So far it looks like most models will get to use a 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbocharged mill which is known to make anywhere between 120 and around 180 horsepower and as much as 180 lb-ft of torque.
This would easily be more than enough to give the Corolla an edge over most of its rivals.
If Toyota decides to also release a TRD version, like some rumors, are saying, then the new Corolla should also get a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, also from BMW. This one should be able to provide well over 200 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque.
While it may not sound all that impressive, it should allow the Corolla to take most of its high-performance European rivals head-on which is not exactly an easy thing to do.
Release and Price
It is safe to assume the base version of the Corolla will continue to cost less than $20,000 in the US. However, the car may get more expensive in Europe where it has to face some rather tough competition.
Let's compare the prices of cars...
Considering the development mule looked ready, it is safe to assume the car will hit the market close to the start of 2018.
