The current Highlander is a really interesting vehicle. It looks like a really imposing SUV but it feels a lot more like a minivan. Thanks to that it has been quite successful up until now. In order to keep it going, it looks like the manufacturer might release a new model with the future 2019 Toyota Highlander. So far the details are still scarce. Even so, we are pretty sure the upcoming model will be an evolution of the ongoing design, so we can expect more of the same. The design will likely get even more aggressive while the interior should become much easier to live with. The car should also receive new engines which will allow it to become more efficient and faster too.
This article is just a rumor!
2019 Toyota Highlander Rumors and News
One of the biggest changes to happen with the future Highlander is likely going to be the car’s platform. Even though Toyota hasn’t said anything about it, we are positive the car will use their all-new TNGA architecture. This platform also underpins the Prius as well as a few of their other cars.
Over what they used before, this platform is known to be more structurally sound while also being lighter. The center of gravity is also going to get lower which will make the Highlander better to drive than ever before. Even though the specifics are still unknown, we can expect the wheelbase and the track width to increase.
However, the car might get slightly shorter which would allow the Highlander to drive better. The height is likely going to remain unchanged. The running gear will also change slightly in order to make the car better to drive without compromising the comfort of its passengers.
One of the reasons people buy the current model is for its looks. We hope this will remain true for the upcoming Highlander. Considering Toyota’s newest cars, we can expect the future 2019 Toyota Highlander to get a much more aggressive front end.
The grille is likely going to increase in size while the headlights should get even thinner. With the help of the slightly shorter body and longer wheelbase, the stubby design is not going to be present anymore. In the rear, the large roof spoiler and the SUV-like tail lights could stay. However, the car might also receive a different bumper in order to accentuate its sporty features.
Like before, the Highlander will continue to offer enough room for up to 7 adults. There might be more rear legroom thanks to the longer wheelbase and the trunk should be roughly the same size as before. The big difference here should be the design. While the current model looks pretty much like any other Toyota, the new one should be different.
We expect a more SUV-like design with a wider center stack, fewer buttons as well as a taller driving position. Some also said the seats will change in order to offer better side-support but at this point, we don’t think this is going to happen.
2019 Toyota Highlander Engine and Specs, Hybrid
There are three different engines available with the current model. The 2019 Toyota Highlander should not be far off either. The base version is likely going to use a smaller, but more efficient, a turbocharged engine which should develop around 200 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque.
|Engine||Regular Unleaded I-4|
|Transmission||Electronic 6-Speed Automatic|
|Gas Mileage||20/24 mpg City/Hwy|
|Body Style||Sport Utility|
The larger 3.6 liters naturally aspirated V6 might also be gone. In its place, Toyota could install a 2.0 liter turbo-four good for around 250 to 260 horsepower and north of 300 lb-ft of torque.
Both of these should make use of a brand new automatic gearbox which will drive either the front or all wheels. The hybrid is likely still going to be available for a while. Chances are this will not change a bit, so expect the same 3.5 liters V6 and the same type of electric-based all-wheel-drive system.
Release and Price
So far Toyota hasn’t said all that much about the future Highlander. However, there are a few inside sources saying quite a bit of interesting information.
It looks like the 2019 Toyota Highlander might arrive at the end of 2018 and it should go on sale in early 2019. The car’s price is likely going to increase slightly, so a base price of around $32,000 shouldn’t be out of the question.
