2019 Toyota Land Cruiser Rumors

2019 Toyota Land Cruiser

The ongoing Land Cruiser has been released in 2007 after a 5-year development project. Since then the SUV went through a few major updates with the last one being released in late 2015. While it remains a benchmark for luxury and off-road prowess in its class, on the road it can’t really compete with its main rivals. Because of that, it seems that a new model is already in the works. The 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser is expected to be an all-new vehicle, just like its predecessor before it. This time around Toyota is likely going to focus a lot more on making the car drive better on the road without ruining the off-road capability. Not much is known at this point but it seems the body on frame design is here to stay which has always been a selling point for it.

Frankfurt Motor Show 2017 – Toyota Land Cruiser

Facelifted Toyota Land Cruiser has been presented at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show, but according to reports, there are no significant mechanical upgrades.

One of the rumors was about the V8 engine that could be offered in the UK, later on, these reports were dismissed, and we will be getting well-known and tested units in the lineup.

While the Eastern Europe will have 2.7-liter and 4.0-liter powerplants on the list we know that 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbocharged diesel will come to the UK.

This engine is good for 175 bhp and 332 lb-ft of torque that is available at 1,600 rpm. Modern D-4D diesel gives an immediate punch as 273 lb-ft of torque is available from low 1,200 rpm, but even with this, we are getting one quite slow vehicle.

The 0-62 mph run is done in 12.7 seconds, something that you can’t even compare to SQ7 or other sporty models on the market. On the other hand, this has some benefits as this SUV will be able to return 38.2 mpg according to Toyota.

Review – Rumors

Just like its predecessor, the frame of the new Land Cruiser is likely going to be heavily based on that of the upcoming Tundra. This means that it will more than likely be a high strength steel chassis on top of which Toyota will mount an aluminum and steel body.

The frame is expected to be considerably stiffer than its predecessor without being much heavier. The suspension will remain an all independent setup but this time around it seems the Land Cruiser could receive a standard air suspension.

This would allow it to behave well on the road while retaining its off-road capabilities unchanged.

The body is more than likely going to be made out of steel

However, the hood, doors, roof and even the fenders might be made out of aluminum. This will reduce weight and lower the center of gravity making it more comfortable and better to drive.

2019 Toyota Land Cruiser Exterior

The 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser is expected to maintain the muscular and classic design of its predecessor. However, there will be changes meant to make it more appealing to the general market. For starters, the car is expected to get a new front end, more similar to Toyota’s other crossovers out there.

The rear will likely receive the same type of boxy look as before. This has been a trademark of the Land Cruiser for years. In terms of size, it will likely remain nearly as large as before with a possible increase in its wheelbase.

Interior

Here the current model didn’t impress us too much mainly because it was loosely based on the Tundra. However, it seems that this won’t be the case with the upcoming 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser.

The car is expected to get a brand new interior layout and design

The cabin will be a lot more similar to Lexus’ offerings which would definitely elevate the experience inside. Things like a better infotainment system, more safety features as well as better materials will be offered on the base model.

It seems the new Land Cruiser will offer little to no plastic inside the cabin. This would make it one of the best-equipped cars under $100,000 which should make Toyota one of the top premium manufacturers around.

The SUV will likely continue to offer up to 8 seats in some versions. A highly luxurious 4 seat model is also a real possibility, especially now when some of its rivals already confirmed this type of layout.

Engine 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser

The 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser is more than likely going to stick with the same 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V8. However, the SUV will receive an updated version which will boast both port and direct fuel injection.

This should allow it to offer over 400 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. This is mostly on part with its rivals but it will likely offer worse fuel consumption.

A new 8 or 10-speed automatic should help slightly with that. Some also suggested Toyota’s new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 is a real possibility.

While it offers over 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, the V6 won’t be a match to most of its rivals

We may see a higher output V6 or even a more powerful V8 in which case the Land Cruiser will become a great alternative to some of its US and German made rivals.

Release and Price

The price is likely going to stay well above $85,000 which has always been the case with it. According to the latest information, the new Land Cruiser arrives at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show.
