Hyundai wants to enter the upmarket with a larger crossover which would have three rows of seats. The new model would sit above the Santa Fe and its name has already been determined. It will be called the Palisade.
This car is made with the intention to ultimately replace the Santa Fe XL, which is relatively new but which has not met the expectations. The XL is the stretched version of the regular Santa Fe and the people were not quite satisfied with this model that comes with three rows. 2020 Hyundai Palisade …
Additional changes will take place. For instance, the Palisade will have a more luxurious feel to it and it will be interesting to watch it as it tries to battle with a crazy competition in the SUV segment. This car will become the flagship model of the brand considering that it will sit on top of the range. This is not the first time for Hyundai to have an SUV dwarfing over the other models. They made that move once with Veracruz, but that model was not as successful as the company had hoped for.
With the Veracruz name ditched in 2012, Hyundai has a chance for a fresh start. Some of the fiercest competitors of the Palisade will be the Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander and the Honda Pilot. The 2020 Hyundai Palisade will be officially presented at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. Keep on reading to see what to expect from this car.
Design – 2020 Hyundai Palisade
Generally speaking, the design of the new model will not be as aggressive as some people might hope for. The car is based on the Grandmaster SUV concept but the aesthetics will be similar to the Santa Fe. In the front, the grille is flanked by DRLs which are narrow, while the headlights and fog lights are placed below. The grille features a thick bezel with horizontal bars.
The sides of the Palisade are not that different from the sides of the concept and the upright look is quite prominent. Meanwhile, the concept’s gigantic light cluster has been toned down significantly and the production model looks quite natural when look at from the rear. The opinions about exterior design might be split, but the Palisade is quite a unique model, and nobody can take that away from it.
Hyundai keeps improving the things in the cabin no matter the model and the Palisade is not an exception. The interior looks similar to the Santa Fe. It is still early to talk about the material quality but it will be quite impressive if it remains as the model it will sit above. Anything better than the Santa Fe and everyone will be more than just pleasantly surprised.
The 2020 Hyundai Palisade will have room for eight people who will sit in three rows. Hopefully, the rear bench will be practical, allowing easy access. This will be rated once the car hits the market.
Under the Hood
At this point, only one engine is certain to be installed under the hood of the new Hyundai. It is a 3.3-liter V6 which delivers 290 hp and 252 lb-ft of torque. Hyundai is expected to use the company’s eight-speed automatic transmission whereas the FWD might be standard and AWD optional.
Meanwhile, the most expensive Santa Fe comes with a 2.0-liter unit good for 235 hp which must not be forgotten. It remains to be seen whether this mill will find its way to the Palisade.
It is too early for the official pricing of the 2020 Hyundai Palisade to be released, but we can always make an intelligible guess based on the prices of the competition. Therefore, we can conclude that the new Hyundai SUV will start somewhere between $30,000 and $35,000 whereas the range-topping model will cost approximately $50,000.
