Before Mercedes introduced the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA Class, they displayed the Concept Style Coupe. After a year, the first CLA debuted at the Detroit Auto Show. Basically, this model is a smaller CLS, and even though these two cars are similar in many aspects, the clients still had to get used to the size and the coupe body style. The new CLA will soon be launched and let’s see what to expect.
2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA News
The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA will mark the beginning of the second-generation model. It is expected to debut next year, and even though we still need to wait a long time for this model to be introduced. We have a lot of details about the new car, and we would like to share it with you guys! Read about 2019 Infiniti QX50…
We have already pointed out the similarities between the new CLA and the CLS. But the new vehicle will be underpinned by the same platform that can be found on the new Mercedes A-Class. Furthermore, the same engines will be used.
We expect major changes inside the cabin since the interior of the current model is outdated. The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA will come without the floating infotainment system whereas the HVAC vents will shrink in size. Some other changes will be introduced as well, but don’t expect the second-generation CLA to come will all of the fancy tech because it is the cheapest Mercedes model.
We expect the MBUX infotainment system as a standard piece of equipment while a digital infotainment cluster might be on the option list. The passengers on the rear bench should be more comfortable due to increased headroom, but don’t expect too much improvement in that department – space in the cabin will remain more or less the same.
The CLA is the smaller version of the CLS and even the rear door glass has the same curve. The new model is expected to come with the hood which is leaned forward and the car will come with the aggressive overall design.
The front end of the vehicle will be redesigned which means that we will see smaller headlights and slightly different grille. While every part is the smaller version of the CLS, the air dam will be huge on this car – don’t let the wraps fool you.
On the sides, the shape of the stationary glass has changed and it is now more rounded on in the rear end, which will reflect in extra headroom at the back seat.
The biggest changes are at the rear. The taillights will shrink drastically and the LED design is completely different from what we have seen on the ongoing model. The exhaust pipes are larger while the deck lid less rounded.
As we have said, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA will use the same engines as the A-Class. What this means is that we can expect to see a 1.4-cylinder engine and a 2.0-liter unit for the petrol powertrains. The A-Class is also offered with a 1.5-liter diesel which should also make its way to the CLA lineup.
The first engine is the 1.4-liter, and it produces 163 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, and it is used for the CLA 200. This unit is combined with a six-speed manual, but you can spice it up by adding a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
The next trim in the lineup is the CLA 250, and it receives a 2.0-liter unit that generates 224 ponies and 258 lb-ft of torque. There is no transmission choice here, and the seven-speed DCT is used. The diesel powerplant will be reserved for the CLA 180d, but this unit delivers only 116 horses and 192 lb-ft of torque.
Considering that the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA is still wearing camouflage, the prices are not released yet. At this point, all we can do is guess. What we know is that the CLA is cheapest Mercedes model and the ongoing version costs $32,700. This price will go north for at least $800-$1000. We can see the new model kicking off in between $33,500 and $34,000.
We still have a lot of waiting to do since the 2020. Mercedes-Benz CLA will hit the market sometimes next year. The car is still in the development phase, but once it hits the street. It will compete against the BMW 3 Series as well as the Audi A3.
